Integrating clients’ language, cultural background, neurodiversity within their family, school and community life shapes Lucero Vargas-Almeida holistic collaborative approach.
Supporting both native and English languages acquisition does not hold back children's long-term success in English or in the community. Moreover cognitive abilities like thinking skills, learning to read, and self-esteem among others, strengthen thanks to bilingualism. The punctual facilitation of both languages will help youngsters to fully develop their potential and families, to build their own capacity.
With diversified experience and knowledge gained from her practice with spanish speaking clients and multicultural and multilingual families, Lucero Vargas-Almeida, a registered bilingual speech-language pathologist in Alberta and Canada, started Multilinguabilities since 2003. She has three multilingual children and frequently gives talks on multilingualism and intercultural activity. Lucero has developed and implemented individualized programs adapted to the clients’ needs and environments (home, school and community) as well as several initiatives and resources to support families and teachers such as MAPP: Multilingual Approaches for Parents and Professionals. She’s actively involved in different projects at the Multicultural Health Brokers Coop.
